Better Options: Laundry Edition

Laundry products are some of the worst, most toxic products out there. After soaking in these chemicals, we wear the clothes all day long, letting them seep into our skin and bloodstream, not to mention breathing them in the whole time.

Here's my full list of better options that won't harm you, your family, your kids, or your pets. Detergent, oxy boost, softeners, stain removers, baby laundry, dryer balls, and the laundry room extras I actually use.

Detergent.

My go-tos rotate between Truly Free Home, Attitude, Blueland, and Rowe Casa, plus two old-school extras for stubborn loads and keeping whites white.

For stubborn stains and keeping whites white, two old-school extras I keep on hand:

  • Borax, a natural mineral booster for tough loads
  • Bluing for whites, the old-fashioned way to keep whites from yellowing

Oxy boost.

An oxygen booster added to the wash handles stains and brightening without chlorine bleach.

Softeners.

Skip the synthetic fragrance sheets. These do the job without the chemical cocktail.

Stain removers.

Non-negotiable in a house with kids. These get out the mess without the toxic spray.

I also browse Rowe Casa Organics for whatever's new in their laundry line.

Baby laundry.

Baby skin is more absorbent and more sensitive, so this is one category I don't cut corners on.

Wool dryer balls.

My replacement for dryer sheets. Cuts drying time, softens naturally, zero fragrance.

Laundry room must-haves.

The extras that make laundry day easier, not toxic, just genuinely useful.

"You wear these clothes all day, every day. What's in the wash ends up on your skin. Worth being picky about."
