Elderberry Gummies

I make a giant batch of these every September and we work our way through them all winter. My kids think they're candy. I let them.

The elderberry syrup I use is from Organic Olivia, it's the only one I've found without filler sweeteners or weird preservatives, and her formula includes elderflower and a few other immune herbs. Use code ANEESA for 15% off.

Quality of gelatin matters a lot here too. I use grass-fed from Further Food. It's great for your gut lining, which is honestly half of your immune system anyway.

What you'll need.

— InstructionsHow they come together.

  1. 01
Bloom the gelatin. Pour the water into a small bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the top. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it gets thick and wrinkly.
  2. 02
Warm the syrup. In a small saucepan, gently warm the elderberry syrup over low heat. Don't boil, we want to keep the elderberry compounds intact and protect the raw honey.
  3. 03
Combine. Add the bloomed gelatin to the warm syrup and whisk constantly until it's fully dissolved. Remove from heat. Whisk in the honey and lemon juice.
  4. 04
Fill the molds. Use a glass syringe or dropper to fill silicone gummy molds. I prefer glass, hot liquid in plastic isn't ideal.
  5. 05
Chill. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, until firm.
  6. 06
Pop and store. Flex the molds to release the gummies. Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. We take 2-3 daily during sick season, 1-2 as a daily maintenance dose otherwise.

Stay well, xx Aneesa
